Dr. Ellen D. Jorgensen, Ph.D., Chief Science Officer
Prior to joining Carverr, Dr. Ellen Jorgensen was a co-founder Scientific Director of Brooklyn Bio, a research collective in Brooklyn New York. In 2017, Fast Company magazine named her one of their Most Creative Leaders in Business. She holds a Ph.D. in Cell & Molecular Biology from New York University, spent over 30 years in the biotechnology industry, and is currently adjunct faculty at The Cooper Union.
Dr. Jorgensen is passionate about increasing science literacy in both student and adult populations, particularly in the areas of molecular and synthetic biology. In 2009 she cofounded Genspace, a community biolab in Brooklyn that was named one of the World's Top 10 Innovative Companies in Education. She is a SynbioLEAP fellow, an alumni of the Amsterdam School of Creative Leadership THNK, and a member of the GP-write consortium to construct a human genome. She recently founded the nonprofit Biotech Without Borders to help provide access to biotech education to all. Her TED talks, “Biohacking: You Can Do It Too” and “What You Need To Know About CRISPR” have each had over a million views.
Vishaal B. Bhuyan, Co-Founder & CEO
Mr. Bhuyan has spent his entire career trying to merge the digital and natural worlds. In 2006, Vishaal helped launch an electronic platform to trade financial derivatives backed by human longevity risk, which had over $3 billion in listed assets at its peak. He subsequently co-authored 3 books with Wiley & Financial Times which proposed the use of financial instruments to address the economic impact of aging demographics, overfishing and water scarcity. Vishaal has actively managed portfolios of complex esoteric derivatives and built one of the first non-bank market makers for credit index swaps. Most recently, Vishaal was a portfolio manager at a $1 billion multi-strategy hedge fund.
Mr. Bhuyan has spoken at a number of universities and conferences and has been featured on FOX Business, CNET and in the Wall Street Journal, NY Times, and Institutional Investor. Vishaal began his career on the New York Mercantile Exchange and graduated from The University of Pennsylvania in 2005, with a degree in the History of Science & Technology.
Deepak Hathiramani, Advisor
Deepak Hathiramani is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Vistronix Holdings, Inc., a customer-focused professional services company that provides National Security Information systems, solutions and services to protect our country’s safety, security and economic well-being through ingenuity, innovation and mission expertise. As an agile mission systems innovator and employer-of-choice in National Security, Vistronix’ solutions leverage our differentiated capabilities in Big Data & Cloud Analytics, Cyber & SIGINT Operations, C4ISR & Network Centric Solutions, Geospatial Decision Support and Enterprise Data Management for government customers charged with our nation’s security. Vistronix has received several awards including Inc. magazine’s Inc500 for three consecutive years, and Top 50 Tech Places to Work.
Mr. Hathiramani has more than 25 years of management and technical experience with privately funded and venture-funded high-tech start-ups. Prior to Vistronix, Mr. Hathiramani worked with high-tech start-ups including Nx Networks (previously known as Netrix Corporation) through its Initial Public Offering and Cinnabar Software until its sale to publically traded KMW Systems. Deepak received a Bachelor of Arts, Cum Laude in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Mathematics/Physics from the University of Bombay, India. He currently serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Professional Services Council (PSC) and is a member of George Mason University’s Volgenau School of Engineering Advisory Board and Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) Senior Advisory Board. In the past, Mr. Hathiramani served on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Technology Alliance and was a member of the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s E-Communities Task Force.
Alex Chung, Advisor
Before founding Giphy, Chung was a Hacker in Residence at Betaworks and directed media technology for companies such as MTV, Viacom, Comcast. He has managed research for Paul Allen’s R&D lab and started his career as a hardware engineer at Intel. A serial entrepreneur whose past projects include The Fridge, a private social network acquired by Google, and several others backed by investors such as YCombinator, Mitch Kapor, Google, Intel, Yahoo, and others. He was named on Business Insider’s Top 25 most influential technologists in New York, Fast Company’s most creative people in business, Ad Age’s 50 most creative people of 2016, and has degrees in philosophy, computer engineering, and graphic design.
Nirmal P. Roy, Co-Founder & CFO
Before joining Carverr as CFO, Mr. Roy was an Investment Analyst and Partner at BHR Capital LLC, a New York based hedge fund with over 1.5 billion of assets at it's peak where he focused on real estate securities across the capital structure. Nirmal also served on the Board of Trade Street Residential (TSRE), a publicly traded multifamily REIT that owned and managed $600mm of assets, which was sold to Independence Realty Trust in September 2015. Prior to joining BHR, Mr. Roy focused on distressed real estate investing at Meadow Partners, a New York based real estate private equity firm. Previously, Mr. Roy worked in the Principal Finance Group of Silver Point Capital, a hedge fund primarily focused on distressed credit in the public and private sectors. He began his career at Starwood Capital Group where he focused on the acquisition of real estate assets and public real estate companies in the U.S. and internationally. Mr. Roy received a Bachelor of Science in Economics, magna cum laude, from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dan Simon, Advisor
Dan joined Baswood in 2018 and delivers over 25 years of engineering, development, operations, and leadership experience in the water, energy, manufacturing, and food industries. Dan started his career as a water and energy management engineer at Ecolab, Inc. and NCH Corporation, with progressive roles living and working in the USA, Japan, and Thailand. Dan then served the next five years with TIC/Kiewit Construction developing, financing, building, and operating over $5 billion in industrial process and infrastructure assets. Since 2004, Dan has been a passionate entrepreneur, CEO, and Board Member to multiple public and private sustainable technology companies including taking one public and growing it from inception to over $650 M in annual sales. Most recently, Dan was leading a boutique advisory firm he founded, serving global family offices, private equity funds, and public investment companies.
Chiragh Dewan, Chief Technology Officer
Chiragh (C|EH, C|HFI, OSCP, OSWP) is a creative and exponential thinker with a diverse background in Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Cyber Security and more recently Digital Phenotyping. While in college, he began a project to build the world's first Artificial Intelligence-based Operating System (AiroCorp). One of the breakthroughs during that journey was the creation of a sentence tagger which achieved an accuracy rate of 96%. He went on selling the company in late 2016. He has written various articles on cybersecurity and provided numerous cybersecurity workshops in private as well as government organizations. He has given various talks on Entrepreneurship and Artificial Intelligence including a TEDx talk in 2016. He has been listed in over 50 hall of fames for finding critical security issues including Facebook, Microsoft, PayPal, Netflix, Blackberry, Dropbox, Twitter, Reddit, Adobe, Drupal, HTC, etc.
